Edmundson out six weeks with broken forearm

Defenseman was injured blocking shot during 6-1 win over Colorado
Thursday, had surgery and will be re-evaluated in six weeks; Butler recalled

ST. LOUIS -- The Blues took an injury hit during their 6-1 victory Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche when the team announced Friday that defenseman Joel Edmundson will miss the next six weeks with a broken right forearm.

Edmundson was injured with eight minutes remaining in the first period after blocking a Nail Yakupov shot. Edmundson was in immediate discomfort and went to the bench and never returned. He will be re-evaluated in six weeks after undergoing surgery and will at least miss the next 17 games.

To replace Edmundson, the Blues recalled veteran Chris Butler from San Antonio of the American Hockey League.

It's a blow for the Blues to lose Edmundson, who had played in 56 games this season and set a career-high in goals with six and tied his personal best in points with 15. He had been a steady partner playing alongside Alex Pietrangelo, Colton Parayko and most recently, Vince Dunn.

Edmundson was one of six players (Brayden Schenn, Paul Stastny, Parayko, Vladimir Sobotka and Vladimir Tarasenko) to play in all 56 games this season.

Whatever plans the Blues had as far as the trade deadline is concerned may complicate things with they were going to trade from one area they had true depth in, rotating seven quality defensemen in and out of the lineup. It has been widely known that the Blues would be in the market for a top six forward, if they were to explore the trade market.

A native St. Louisan, Butler, 31, has been in the Blues' organization since the 2014-15 season. He has appeared in 47 games for the Rampage this season, leading the defensemen with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists).
